Welcome to TAB!

Hey, hope all of you are doing well--it's a busy time of year and that doesn't seem like it's going to change until at least January--so I decided to create a blog to share what goes on at our monthly Teen Advisory Board meetings--so even if you don't make it to the meeting, you'll have an idea about what's coming up, and can put in your own two cents ;)

We had 6 people show up for our Game Night for Teen Read Week last Tuesday, but Craft Night didn't go over so well (nobody came to that one).  We had two at our Teen Advisory Board meeting on Saturday, both new, so welcome Madison and Kyle :) Here's what we talked about:

*NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month--lasts all of November)--Maybe doing a weekly writing time for an hour and a half or so on Thurs. evenings, so people could come in and get inspiration and help, or just set aside time to work on their writing.

*Movie Premiere Party--There are several movies coming out in Nov/Dec that would work well for this--maybe we could have some theme-related food and games and dress up as a favorite character--suggestions for titles, activities, and food would be great.

*Improv--Along the lines of Whose Line Is It Anyway?--an opportunity to think on your feet in acting out scenes or reacting to situations--maybe we could get a theater major from one of the colleges to help us out?

*Cooking class--We have a local chef who said he would be willing to do this--just simple things like making Ramen noodles into an actual meal--stuff you guys might actually do at this point when you need a quick meal.

*Genealogy--I could talk to Pat in the Heritage Room here at the library about doing this--this might be something for early 2014, since I think she only works late one night a week.

*Murder Mystery--If the game Clue came to life!

        *End-of-Finals Party--Probably Dec. 21

*Painting book ends--Paint book ends in the Young Adult section with quotes and cover art

*Activities the week after Christmas--movies, games, maybe the craft thing would work then too

       *Minute to Win It

*Paper-writing class--Definitely something you could use--and we could try to make it fun :)

*Christmas Card Balls--We want to make these to decorate the Children's Department, but it might also be something you can do as an individual craft.

These are just suggestions and ideas--nothing is set in stone, and if you have any other ideas, feel free to share!  If you have any ideas for publicizing these, share those too--I've been sending the information to the schools, but I'm not sure it's getting out there.  We'll also need help in the actual planning/set-up for some of the more complicated activities.

Also, if you haven't been to the library in awhile, come check out our revamped Young Adult area--we've got our shelves, computer counter, and tables in, and are hoping to get our new touch-screen laptops in sometime this week!  We've got one of our pieces of artwork from the schools, (there will be 7 total), and when they're all in, we'll frame them in metal and hang them above our countertops and wall shelf.

Next TAB meeting will be Saturday, Nov. 16th @ 1 PM in the Children's Department
